Hawaii/Guam Announcement : Operations : Port of Oakland Hazardous Materials Compliance Requirements

Dear Valued Customer:

The Port of Oakland Tariff # 2-A requires that an application for a Port of Oakland permit be electronically submitted to them on form 700-1 at least 48 hours in advance of any anticipated shipment of a class 1 explosive, class 5 oxidizer or class 7 radioactive cargo shipments. The Port prohibits the handling, loading or discharging of the referenced cargo in the Port Area unless the permit is in place. The permit application will be reviewed by the Port, the Fire Marshall and in some cases the US Coast Guard. A permit number will be issued by the Port of Oakland to allow the cargo entry onto the port and shipment in or out of the port area.

Horizon Lines is pleased to make the application for the permit at the time of booking on your behalf. To apply for the permit, Horizon Lines will require the name and address of the shipper and consignee, container number and the booking number along with a detail description of all of the cargo covered by the permit at the time of the booking. This is the same information required on a completed dangerous goods declaration or shipper’s hazardous materials declaration.

Please ensure that all class 1, class 5 and class 7 hazardous materials cargo is booked and the permit applied for 48 hours prior to the arrival of the container at the port to comply with the regulation.
